What Makes a Film Fundable in Today’s Market

“Most films don’t fail because they’re not good enough. They fail because they’re not adequately and accurately positioned to be financed.”   Fundability isn’t about passion—it’s about clarity. Investors and buyers are looking for projects that understand their place in the market before they ever enter it. That usually means: The projects that move forward are the ones that already feel inevitable—creatively and commercially. When I develop a film, I’m not just asking if it’s meaningful. I’m asking if it’s legible to the people who have the power to move it forward. That intersection is where projects stop being ideas—and start becoming inevitable. Most creators skip this step. That’s why most projects stall. If you’re developing a project and thinking about positioning it for financing, I occasionally advise on select films at the development stage.
